K. J. Watson – tangerine, butter, oily and toasty; full – weight with juicy acidity and hazelnut – mineral – honeycomb finish.

S. Kocsis – wicked, from its slight hazy colour to finish, fantastic texture here, balancing acidity and a well defined mineral aspect; full yet feels feather light, with great intensity of high – toned white fleshed summer fruit and yeast – wax – spice accents, and powerful finish; fantastic with fatty whole grilled Mediterranean sea bass drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and lemon ala Nove Trattoria.

Closson Chase – lighter, less alcohol, intensely mineral, and a bit of reduction signs here, white peach, orchard blossoms, limestone and zesty with white pepper spice trait; crisp with long – persuasive finish; growing on me after every sip.

It is certainly worth decanting these Chardonnays and there is no need to serve truly chilled, rather just few degrees below room temperature.

And, if you can, taste these great Chardonnay side – by – side, get some fine cheeses from Upper Canada ready, along a decent charcuterie board, gather a few friends, and meditate over, chat, compare and debate, have fun and enjoy, that’s life all about, would not you agree…?!”

We ‘re excited to announce our first ever photo contest.  All you need is a camera, a bottle of Closson Chase wine and a little inspiration. We’re looking for the best, original photograph featuring our Closson Chase wine – the venue can be exotic, eccentric, close to home, far away but most of all it should be fun.  To participate simply tweet your image using #CCVPhoto.

Each entrant will receive a complimentary tasting of Closson Chase wine.  Enter as often as you like but note free tastings are limited to one session per shutterbug. The winning photographer will be awarded a coveted collector’s item – a rich, opulent wine from our library – the 2001 Closson Chase Chardonnay – our very first vintage.

The contest begins February 1, 2012 and closes February 29, 2012. The winner will be announced March 1, 2012.

The contest is open to everyone 19 years or older. By submitting a photo, participants agree to allow Closson Chase to use the image for promotional purposes.

2012 is underway and lists are appearing everywhere for everything.   One list we’re truly excited about is Tony Aspler’s Top 10 Canadian Wines Tasted in 2011, which included our 2009 Closson Chase Vineyard Pinot Noir and 2008 Closson Chase Beamsville Bench Chardonnay.   Earlier in the  year these two wines attracted the attention of other wine writers with the Pinot garnering 4 stars from Rod Phillips, while Natalie MacLean hailed the Chardonnnay as “Canada’s Best Chardonnay”.   Hmm – it just might be time to add these wines to your must buy wine list.

That’s why Closson Chase is very honored to announce that one of its wines, the 2008 South Clos Chardonnay, has been selected to be served for Ferran Adrià, the world’s greatest and most famous chef, who is being honored in Montreal for his great achievements in the world of gastronomy.

On Monday night, November 28, this hyperinventive Catalan chef, whose cutting edge El Bulli was for years considered the world’s best restaurant will be the guest of honor of a dinner hosted by the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec, the food, wine and hostelry school located in Montreal. A special menu focusing on local food and drink has been put together by Frédéric Laplante, chef at Québec City’s La Tanière, probably the restaurant that is closest to Adrià‘s spirit in Québec.

In that creative menu, Deborah Paskus’ reserve cuvée, the South Clos, was selected to accompany an exotic dish of arctic salmon with a banana and almond purée, honey emulsion and dried capers. The fruity yet mineral character of this chardonnay from Prince Edward County, heightened by careful oak aging, will surely provide a perfect counterpoint to this dish.

We’re very glad to be part of this celebration of culinary creativity and of the greatest food and wine that Québec and Canada can produce. As they say in Catalan: bon profit, Ferran Adrià! Enjoy!
